Who We Are

- Planet friendly. We have the lowest carbon footprint of any seaweed producer as we utilize solar drying and never freeze or blanche our products;
- Management has over 15 years experience in the seaweed and seafood industries and over 30 years of food industry experience; and
- Through our non-profit, the Maine Seaweed Exchange, we offer aquaculture and business classes, consulting, and interest free loans to support new seaweed farmers. We have trained hundreds of seaweed farmers in the US, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
What We Do
- Operates largest seaweed nursery in US producing seed for over 7 seaweed species, and supplying high quality seed to industry and research institutions throughout the US;
- Operates only commercial green urchin hatchery in US, and developed the Sea Hedgehog Express (TM) live urchin shipping technology;
- Offers custom milling and pelletization to the seaweed industry;
- Developed and markets the only open water dulse growing system currently deployed in the US and Canada;
- Tested for safety— we extensively test all our products for safety;
- We sell and distribute MSE Grade1+ organic seaweed powders and flakes to a variety of users and industries;
- Capacity to produce over 1 million pounds of wet seaweed annually;
- Licensed seafood dealer and shellfish shipper;
- Registered and inspected processing facility: USDA, FDA, and State of Maine;

Sarah Redmond - Founder
Springtide Seaweed founder Sarah Redmond is a dedicated seaweed farmer, tending the wild ocean garden and inspiring others about all things Maine seaweed. Sarah has been a leader in seaweed aquaculture since 2010 through the development of new nurseries and educational programs, crops and products, sea farmer training programs, the first organic certification program for seaweed crops, and through the major facilitation of the industry.
